Molybdenum is a naturally occurring chemical element. In its pure form, molybdenum is a silvery-grey metal. About 86% of molybdenum is used in alloys, and the rest is used in chemical applications.

Molybdenum’s properties:

  • Very high melting point
  • Can withstand extreme temperatures without significantly expanding or softening
  • Low coefficient of thermal expansion
  • High corrosion resistance
  • High weldability
  • In wires, tensile strength increases as diameter decreases
